Add routerra.ai as a custom Chat Completions provider in Chatbox.

Install and prepare

Install Chatbox for your operating system from the official download page. Open the installed client; a Chatbox AI subscription is not required for this custom-provider setup. Create your own gateway key at routerra.ai/keys and identify a model that key can use. The key goes into Chatbox’s custom provider configuration, not the Chatbox AI license field; model charges are billed by routerra.ai.

Configure the connection

Open Settings → Model Provider → Add. Name the provider routerra.ai and select OpenAI API compatible (Chat Completions), not OpenAI Responses. Set API Host to https://routerra.ai and API Key to YOUR_API_KEY. Leave API Path at /v1/chat/completions. This root-host plus explicit-path combination avoids ambiguous /v1 normalization. Add YOUR_MODEL_ID to this provider’s model list; enable vision or tool capabilities only if that model supports them. Save the provider.

Select a model and resolve errors

Click Check after saving, then create a new conversation and explicitly select the custom provider and YOUR_MODEL_ID. If Check fails with 404, inspect API Host and API Path together rather than adding /v1 to both. If replies still use another service, change the conversation’s selected model. A model missing from the menu must be added to the custom provider; a capability checkbox cannot grant API access.
